Two ways to get the money
Immediate refund, at the register
Many stores just take the tax off your bill on the spot. Works when a single payment is under 1,000,000 won, up to 5,000,000 won total for your trip. Nothing to do at the airport for these.
Airport refund, for everything else
The store keeps the tax and hands you a refund slip. You claim the money at the airport before you fly. Keep the slips and the items.

The refund is registered to your passport, so carry it when you shop.
At the airport
Check in, keep the goods
Check in first, but do not drop the bag with your refund items yet. Customs may ask to see the items.
Customs confirmation
Take the items, refund slips, and passport to the customs declaration counter, or scan your passport and slips at a refund kiosk. This is the export confirmation, the stamp that unlocks the money.
Get paid
Go to a tax refund counter or kiosk with your passport. Refunds come in cash or back to your card.
The numbers
- Minimum: 15,000 won on one receipt at a Tax Free store
- Immediate refund: single payment under 1,000,000 won, up to 5,000,000 won total per trip
- Buy within 3 months of your departure date
- For visitors staying in Korea less than 6 months
